Perfect Summer flowers to incorporate into your garden design
We believe Summer has arrived and naturally you’ll be wanting to spend more time outdoors in the garden. In order to improve on the experience of all that lounging around in the sun, we’re going to be talking about flowers, yes flowers, that can give your garden that perfect summer feeling. So, read on and see what additions you can make to your garden design this summer to transform it into a beautiful oasis of calm.
Here at Brian’s Garden & Fencing Services we want you to love your garden, so our team of landscape gardeners in West Lothian is always happy to help with useful hints and tips on how you can improve things and have your garden exactly as you’d love it to be.
Foxglove and other summer perennials
There’s a new foxglove in town and it’s a distant cousin of the hedgerow variety. It’s been around for a while and was a winner at the Chelsea Flower Show 6 years ago. These flower every year and can be placed in pots or borders. How about some penstemon, or purple salvia too for some more impressive summer perennials?
Scented flowers and balmy evenings
This is a lovely addition to your garden and it’ll make it somewhere you’ll love to spend time in, especially in the lighter evenings. Again, you can put them anywhere, in pots or in borders. The smell is always stronger at night and this is because they attract moths for pollination. Think lavender, verbena which smells of lemon, pelargoniums, eau de cologne mint and thyme for something sweet smelling and magical.
For those late but sweet arrivals
For flowers that will bloom at the end of summer up until Autumn, then think rudbeckias, crocosmias in a variety of colours, and orange helenium. These will give your garden a final blast of colour. There’s also ice plants which are usually pink and anemones, the Japanese variety are great, pink again if you fancy it or even white or mauve. You can also have some climbers which also flower, climbers such as clematis but they will take a while before they flower fully for the first time.
