Tips to Spring Clean Your Garden
It’s the perfect time of year to spring clean your garden and make sure it’s ready for the summer months, when you’re more likely to spend more time in it with friends and family. In our post today, we’ve got some fantastic tips to get your garden spring ready.
Your lawn
You want to make sure it’s ready for all that foot traffic it’s going to see. If there are some bald patches left over from the harsh winter months, then some seed and lawn food might be a good idea. You could re-turf the bald areas and water over with what’s known as a soil wetting agent. Before you do any of that, take a rake to the lawn and remove old debris, leaves, anything that’s blown in etc. and then you can start with the reseeding and feeding. Make sure no one goes on the lawn until you’ve finished with the care and attention.
Growing your own vegetables
is a big trend for 2018, get away from the over packaged vegetables and grow your own food. Cover your vegetables as they grow with a sheet of plastic or an old blanket to keep the soil nice and warm. There’s plenty you can grow in your carefully segregated patch such as onions, potatoes, asparagus and courgettes, giving you a bountiful supply of vegetables that have grown naturally in your garden.
Repairs
It’s the perfect time of year to undertake garden maintenance and clean and mend now, especially your garden furniture, patio and/or decking. If you want to entertain this summer then you’ll need to make sure everything’s ready, and by sprucing it up a bit, you’ll be ready to start that barbecue once there’s warmer weather. If you have wooden furniture they’ll need a little more attention, possibly a complete repaint or re-oiled as part of a treatment. If you have canvas furniture make sure you clean them or even recover if necessary. You’ll need to make sure all screws are tight and that nothing is about to collapse.
Clear the pathways
Make sure any pathways are cleared of slippery moss and debris, so no one has any accidents and that they’re clear for people to walk over. If need be, consider re-paving and replace any unsightly, cracked slates or stones. If you have gravel, go over it gently with a rake so it looks fresh.
How about rethinking the colour scheme in your garden?
Now it’s Spring, it’s the perfect time for a change to something new and fresh. You may want one or two dominant colours or perhaps one really sharp colour to brighten the whole garden.
