Garden Decking Maintenance
Today our focus is on garden decking maintenance, so if you’re a little clueless when it comes to keeping your decking clean and free from moss and algae, then read on to find some simple and easy steps to keep your decking like new.
Clean your decking thoroughly and it’ll be worth it in the long-run
If you don’t keep your garden decking clean, you’re going to get mildew and mould and that’s bad news because it can lead to rot. To keep this off your decking why not try:
Getting rid of all debris that includes any dropped rubbish as well as moss and algae, use a knife if you must to get in between the boards, but be gentle
While you’re cleaning your garden decking, make sure any plants or shrubbery is carefully protected. Remove them from the area until you’re finished or cover with sheeting
Sweep the deck thoroughly
Find a gentle detergent to use on your decking, don’t use anything too harsh.
If you have a composite made deck then use something to clean it with that’s suitable for this type of material. Same with Vinyl, warm water and a mild soap will be enough to remove any mildew, dirt and mould. Use a soft brush and no pressure washing as this could damage it. Vinyl decking should be cleaned in a circular motion with no heavy-handed scrubbing if possible.
Clean it thoroughly and then leave to dry.
Wooden decking
If you have a wooden decking, you can use anything from a broom to a paint roller to apply detergent. You’ll need to make sure you don’t leave any pools of water and don’t let it dry until you’ve cleaned it thoroughly or you could wind up with a sticky surface. If you’re going to treat it with a seal, wait until it’s dried thoroughly.
