Choosing Garden Fencing

While choosing to have garden fencing is a pretty straightforward decision, choosing which type of fencing is not quite so simple. Choosing the right fence posts for your garden isn’t easy, there are different types of fence panels which could be either right or wrong for your type of garden.

Garden Fencing Budget

How much money you have to spend on your garden fencing will largely determine what type of fencing you get. You will have to give this serious consideration and shop around in order to get the type of fencing that’s in line with what you can afford to spend.

Time and Expertise

How much expertise and time you need to install your garden fencing is something else that needs careful consideration. Installed incorrectly and in a rush will not only waste the money you’ve spent, but leave you with ineffective garden fencing that may not be secure or safe to use.

Garden Fencing Purpose

What are you going to use your garden fencing for? Is it for security or simply for decoration? Perhaps you want to keep animals out or you want more privacy from the neighbours. You need to know what purpose your fencing is going to serve for before you decide on a particular type.

Long Term Maintenance

Keep in mind the amount of maintenance your fencing is going to require and whether or not you’re going to carry it out yourself or hire someone else to come in and do it.

Lap Panel Fence

These are great for someone who’s going to be installing it themselves. They’re very easy to install and consist of wooden fence panels that can be simply slotted in.

Trellis Fencing

This is good for preventing intruders as it’s so light it would collapse under the weight of someone, therefore creating enough noise to bring attention to what’s going on. It’s also great for providing privacy and as a wind breaker for when you have a barbecue.

There’s a variety of different styles and sizes to choose from and it can work out as a cost effective way of sectioning off parts of the garden. It is therefore better for using within your garden rather than as a way of fencing it off from the outside.

Natural Made Garden Screens

This type of fencing is great for privacy rather than security. They aren’t particularly strong, which is why they’re good for cutting off segments of the garden for added privacy, e.g. for the patio or barbecue where you entertain, rather than as surrounding fencing for your garden.

They can be made from a variety of different materials including bamboo, reed, fern and willow. You can also have them made from man-made materials such as PVC. They work better when they’re attached to an already existing fence. They’re relatively easy to install so you can put them up yourself.
